The Photo of the Day has been an ongoing project of mine for over a year now. Regular followers of my blog (and those who follow along on Facebook) will be familiar the Photo of the Day, but for those who aren’t here’s a bit of background. I’m always looking for new creative inspiration – something to spark the internal fire and get me excited about creating something (hopefully) cool. About eighteen months ago I happened across another photographer’s picture of the day site and I was hooked. I knew that I’d found something that wanted to do. And with that I was off – I set it in stone and announced it on this blog. Time went by and pictures started to pile up. There were times when it was easy, I’d see images everywhere and there were times when it was tough. Some days it felt like a job and other days it felt like the best job in the world. Some days I would post five photos and some days I would post none. After a calendar year I took stock and decided to keep going, it didn’t feel done, not quite yet. As I closed in on 365 images the next phase of the project started to take shape in my mind and I knew where it was going to go.
Music has always been hugely important to me and is an essential ingredient to my creative process. As I type this the stereo is blasting away in the background so to combine my images with music was a natural choice. When I heard this amazing track from the Arcade Fire, of their new album The Suburbs I knew it had to be the song. The driving rhythm and the prophetic first line, “If the businessmen drink my blood / Like the kids in art school said they would / Then I guess I’ll just begin again” made the symbiosis complete.
So I present to you after a year and a half, 2900 raw images, culled to 365, one per day all in the span of 4min 24sec. life distilled.
